The 2021 FIS Alpine World Championships will kick off February 8-21 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. The competition will feature men's and women's downhill, super-G, slalom and giant slalom events.
An alpine combined event will be offered for both women and men. This competition will bring together athletes of different disciplines to see how they perform on a combined race track.
Olympic medalists from the previous Games will be making an appearance at the Olympics Beijing. They'll be competing for more than 33 golds in 11 events (the first being the mixed team competition). Another to watch is American Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who's been on fire this season in both speed and technical races. He's a potential contender in the alpine combination and could also win his first World Cup downhill gold.
Evgeny Arbatov of Russia and Sofia Vasic in Sweden are both expected to be strong contenders in slalom/super-G. Their best performances this year have been in the smaller events, so they'll need to find their groove at the big ones if they want to challenge for Olympic glory.
The GB U21 Alpine skiers took part in the FIS World Junior Championships Bansko 2021. Abi Foster and Liv Foster each put in strong performances. This marks the first time GB have had two females in the top thirty in any Alpine discipline since Chemmy and Amanda Pirie, who were ranked at Quebec, Canada in 2000.
